Half-A-Face Assignment

Half-A-Face Assignment: To prep this assignment, find numerous full face pictures, I used magazines, or you could take pictures of your students. Copy them in medium contrast black and white. Depending on your students’ skill level, offer the whole face to the student, or just half. They should paste 1/2 of the face on the paper and then in pencil VALUE only, using shading techniques such as cross-hatching, to re-create the other half of the face. For beginners, having the other half to refer to is helpful. Before doing this lesson it is also helpful to discuss facial spacing and how to do a value scale.
