2014 Evening of the Arts

March 2014 was the first annual Evening of the Arts at North Middle School. With generous support from North PTA and the Everett Public Schools Foundation, plus our ASB program we combined drama, music and visual arts into a classy evening event.

Jazz Band performed awesome songs, including the very difficult “Jazz Police.” Thanks to Mr. Cummings for working early in the mornings with this club to practice these complicated pieces.

The Drama Club performed “Rhyming Robin Hood” and Mr. Altermott was a great last minute stand in for King Richard! (He got the most laughs!) Thanks to Mrs. Phippard and Mr. Altermott for all the extra rehearsals and time spent making props and costumes.

Jazz Choir sang their jazzy souls out!

The Crowd was HUGE!

Over 330 students, parents and community members attended the event for our first year. (double what I had planned for!) Thanks to Mrs. O’dell and Ms. O’Brien for sending out 800 postcards to the community.

Literary Artists read some great stories and poems. Thanks to Mrs. Vigil for supporting great writing opportunities and encouraging kids to share their work in front of a huge crowd.

For that added splash of class, food was served by Honor Society students, dressed as formal wait staff. Thanks to Mrs. Simmons, Mr. Glazer and Mrs. Sullivan for organizing the food and Mrs. Kelly and Mrs. Vigil for recruiting Honor Society Members for this super successful piece of the event. Thanks to Mr. Nativadad for ordering the food and being the general “do-it-all” guy!

ART SHOW! Kids, parents and even community members really loved the art displays. The People’s Choice Vote activity was super popular and over 200 voting ballots were submitted. Thanks to the Art club and Drama Club for help setting up the tables and artwork for the event.

80 works of art were displayed, (We hope to double that next year!) including the winners from the PTA reflections show, winners from the Scholastic Art Show and works submitted just for this show. 1st, 2nd and 3rd places were awarded in 6 different categories for this event. Art and leadership classes also created fun tree centerpieces for the tables.
